Serre Chevalier, France

Encompassing several picturesque villages, Serre Chevalier is characterized by sun-kissed weather, and a variety of terrains, from forested trails to powder-rich mountaintop bowls.

Skiing in Serre Chevalier

Beginners: Three of the resort’s villages boast convenient nursery areas. After initial lessons, most ski school groups transition to the top of the Ratier gondola, allowing novices to practice amidst breathtaking mountain views. The gentle, scenic green runs then guide learners back to the valley, providing a fulfilling skiing experience from the get-go.

Intermediates: For those snowy days, the tree-lined valley runs offer a picturesque skiing experience, while on clearer days, the vast runs and expansive bowls above the treeline beckon. The terrain offers ample opportunity for exploration, with a mix of cruise-worthy slopes and some approachable black runs for the slightly more daring.

Advanced: Numerous challenging black runs, including the famed Luc Alphand Olympic descent, promise exhilaration.

Off-piste: The off-piste opportunities are abundant, from the fields and trees off the Cibouit chair lift in Monêtier to the high bowls at L’Eychauda, there’s a lot to discover.

Snowboarding: Across the wide range of French ski resorts, Serre Chevalier holds a special place among snowboarders, not only for its dedicated freestyle zone near Villeneuve but also for the natural features scattered across the resort. Cliffs, natural kickers, and powder pockets amidst trees are just some of the terrains boarders can relish. The Serre-Che snow park, complete with a video replay area, further enhances the experience. However, it’s advisable for boarders to plan their routes strategically to avoid some of the flatter sections in the area.
