Grindelwald, Switzerland

Grindelwald, nestled in the stunning Jungfrau region, boasts a sprawling 206 km of ski slopes catering to both novice and expert skiers. With several ski lifts, including the Firstbahn gondola and the historic funicular originating from the town center, Grindelwald provides easy access to its majestic slopes.

Skiing in Grindelwald

Beginners: Newcomers can commence their skiing journey at the Bodmi Arena, located just above Grindelwald's town center. This beginner area offers an ideal learning environment, complemented by the nearby nursery slopes at Bodmi which is a short shuttle bus ride away. For times when snow quality might be compromised, beginners can take the cog-railway to the more snow-sure learner slopes at Kleine Scheidegg. Additionally, the ‘Slow Slopes’ in First and Männlichen, limited to 30km/h, are perfect for those mastering their skills or seeking a relaxed skiing experience.

Intermediates: Intermediate skiers can explore the long blue and red ski runs zig-zagging through the trees and terrains at Kleine Scheidegg. Another enticing option is the First area, a sun-kissed terrain offering splendid views. The Männlichen, on the other hand, presents skiers with gentle runs that reach down to the gondola's mid-station and, given adequate snow, extend all the way to the bottom.

Advanced: For the seasoned skiers, the challenge lies in the Lauberhorn World Cup downhill piste and the formidable Black Rock run originating at the Eigergletscher station. The notorious, almost vertical 'Kanonenrohr' run in Mürren is also sure to get adrenaline pumping. Furthermore, off-piste opportunities abound, with runs like the Bort Direct black from First being an absolute must after fresh snowfall.

Off-piste: Off-piste enthusiasts can venture beneath the Eiger north face to tackle the popular ‘White Hair’ run, preferably under expert supervision. The Lauberhorn chair offers ungroomed routes, promising an exhilarating skiing experience. Moreover, for those seeking even more thrill, heli-skiing options are available, granting access to the lofty peaks above the Lauterbrunnen Valley.

Snowboarding: Grindelwald is not just a skier’s paradise; snowboarders have much to look forward to. While the area has limited beginner pistes, it more than makes up for it with its White Elements snow park at Bärgelegg in the First area, complete with a half-pipe, rails, wall rides, and monumental kickers. The Oberjoch park, designed keeping beginners in mind, provides kickers, rails, and boxes to practice on.
